Curriculum
Religion
- A knowledge of and practice of the Catholic Faith.
- Memorization of prayers and psalms.
- Preparation for the reception of the Sacraments.
- Familiarization with Scripture.
- An environment conductive to the love of God and church that includes Morning Prayer together, weekly Mass, reception of Reconciliation , classroom prayer and service activities.
Mathematics
- The memorization and quick and accurate recall of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts according to grade level.
- An understanding of math concepts according to grade level.
- Preparation for the reception of the Sacraments.
- An appreciation of the order and harmony in math.
- The basic operations, measurement, functions, decimals, fractions, estimation, graphs, geometric shapes and problem solving.
Language Arts
- A focus on phonics in all grades especially k-2.
- Smooth oral reading with good expression.
- The enjoyment of reading and good reading habits.
- The development of comprehension skills.
- The development of creative writing skills based on the six traits of writing.
- The memorization of poetry and "cuttings" from stores/speeches, dramatizations, and the reading of quality literature.
- The implementation of good spelling vocabulary and penmanship.
- The learning and practice of the rules of grammar.
- Students have an opportunity to speak at our morning assemblies, participate in the annual Speech Meet, and study and perform Shakespeare in the upper grades and participate at Mass.
Social Studies/History
- Grades k-2 learn about the basic groups of society, the family, the church, cities, rural life through stories, resource materials and their religion text.
- Grade 2 study simple maps and varied cultures.
- Grade 3 communities and logs of map skills.
- Grade 4 studies Wyoming History and the states.
- Grade 5 focuses on building our nation up through the Civil War.
- As of 2008, the students are reading about Greek and Roman history and some of the early Indian culture such as the Aztecs and Mayan civilizations.
- Much of history is gleaned through reading biographies and stories related to a period of time.
Science
- The love and wonder of God's world is introduced in the primary grades through observation, resource materials and simple experiments.
- In grades 3-5 the focus is on plant and animals, the food chain, rocks and minerals, weather, the solar system, energy and motion and the grandeur of God in our world, space and atmosphere. Environmental issues are discussed and the role of living things is discussed.
- Textbooks and resource materials are used in grades 3-5 as well as experiments and field trips.
- Grades 3-junior high participate in an annual science fair.
Foreign Languages
- Spanish is introduced in kindergarten and continued in grades 1 and 2.
- Latin is introduced in grade 3 and continued in grades 4 through junior high.
- Latina Christiana I and II are used in grades 3-5
Art
- All students participate in weekly art classes in which they learn the basics of art and drawing and enjoy several craft activities.
- The students enter art contests and exhibit work in the halls and the public library
Music
- All students participate in weekly music class that includes singing, rhythm experiences and associated cultural activities.
- Many students take drum, violin and piano lessons and participate in performances.
Physical Education
- All students participate in weekly PE classes in which a great variety of skills and activities are experienced.
They participate in Jump for Heart.
- A number of students play school sports and participate in the city sports and reaction programs.
Computer
- Students in grades K-5 work in the computer lab once a week and do some activities with the classroom computers. In the lab they learn keyboarding, do some research and experience some math and reading games.
Library
- Students in grades K-Junior High have weekly classes and check out books in the library
